Chains and necklaces

Among the simplest pieces to assess: mostly solid gold with a clasp.

Tip: Check clasps and soldered repairs, which can differ in purity from the chain.

Bangles and kadas

Often heavy, sometimes hollow or filled with lac for strength.

Tip: Ask how lac or filling is weighed out before the net gold weight is stated.

Rings

Small but quick to test. Stone-set rings have a gross weight higher than their gold weight.

Tip: Mention stones when you call so the team can explain how they are treated.

Jhumkas and drops

Ornate pieces with filigree, beads and hanging parts.

Tip: Bring the back pieces and any chains that attach, since each part is weighed.

Studs and hoops

Light pieces, often with pearls, glass or backs made of other metal.

Necklace sets and chokers

Mangalsutra and pendants

Gold chains combined with black beads, stones or religious motifs.

Tip: Only the gold is valued like gold. Beads and threads are separate.

Broken and mixed pieces

Snapped chains and dented pieces can be assessed on gold content.
